City gov’t to give out social pension for senior citizens, PWDs
Some 6,000 indigent senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) will be recipients of the P500 social pension from the Iloilo City Government.
Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog said around 5,000 senior citizens and 1,000 PWDs were validated by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) to qualify for the program.
“This is just one of the many ways the city government is extending its support to the PWDs and senior citizens in our desire to implement as many programs as possible for all Ilonggos,” Mabilog said.
The amount will be handed out to the beneficiaries every December and May.
Initial distribution to beneficiary senior citizens and PWDs is set before the end of this month.
Funds for the social pension were taken from the Senior Citizens’ and PWDs’ respective Welfare Programs, CSWD Officer Alfredo Villanueva said.
The city’s program gives out the P500 twice a year to indigent senior citizens 60 and above identified by the CSWDO, unlike the national government’s Social Pension Program that gives the P500 social pension to indigent senior citizens aged 77 and above every month,.
“This is a complementary initiative of the city government to the Social Pension Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development because we believe even a little help can go a long way,” Mabilog stated. (LMSinay/Iloilo City PIO)
